Question: Will the scenery work with Flight Simulator 4, 5, 5.1, 95 or 98.

Answer: GB Airports 2001 is ONLY compatible with Flight Simulator 2000. The scenery has been designed to take advantage of the many improvements to the way scenery is designed in Flight Simulator 2000 that are not possible in earlier versions of Flight Simulator.

Question: When I start FS2000 at one of the GB Airports 2001 Airports at night, or switch to night time FS2000 locks up

Answer: This is due to the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 Patch 2b not being installed. You must have the Patch installed for this scenery (and most other scenery) to work properly. A link to download the patch can be found on the downloads page.

Question: When I have London City as my FS2000 startup location most of the buildings in London are missing

Answer: There is a problem in Flight Simulator 2000 where having London in view when starting FS2000 causes most of the buildings in London disappear (this happens with the default FS2000 London City as well). There are two solutions to this:

  1. Do not use London City as a start up location, use another airport and "Go To" London City (EGLC) after you have started FS2000 (this is the most advisable way to do it)
  2. After you have started FS2000 at London City, go to the "World - Scenery Library" menu and then click "Edit Area", make sure you do not change anything and then click "OK" and then the "Green Tick". It takes FS2000 a while to sort itself out but the buildings should be back (nasty way to fix it but it does work...)

Question: I get this strange thing happening when I use the scenery

Answer: Whilst Flight Simulator 2000 has the ability to produce excellent scenery, it is not without it's bugs, during the testing of this scenery there were a few things that did not work as they should due to bugs in the way Flight Simulator 2000 works. It is hoped these will be possible to fix at some future date, but just so you know here is what we found.

  1. Mirrored lights in the sky at night: there appears to be a problem with several graphics cards (ATI Rage Pro based cards in particular) that produce a second set of lights mirrored in the sky that float around as you move. This happens on all FS2000 scenery, including the default FS2000 airports (take a look at Hong Kong airport and you will see what I mean), but it tends to look worse on add-on scenery with more light. ATI and Microsoft are aware of this problem.
  2. Runway lights (and most other airport lights) appear too bright from a distance, they do not reduce in size/intensity as much as they should do. Unfortunately this is just the way FS2000 lights behave. The default runways have different types of lights that work slightly better, but they do not represent runways in the UK very well so we opted to have brighter lights but better runways.
  3. When looking at the airports in Map View there are duplicate copies of the airport shown on the Map (it is currently not possible to remove an inaccurate airport entry from the map so you see the English Airports correct airport and the default FS2000 one as well)
  4. When doing a Search/Go To Airport by ICAO code there are two entries for the ICAO code I am looking for (this is the same problem as (3) above, it is not possible to remove inaccurate entries from the FS2000 database).

Question: Where are the Gate Guidance systems and how do they work?

Answer: We have added a page to explain how the many different Gate Guidance Systems work and directions on where to find them, Click on this link to view the information.

Question: How do I uninstall the evaluation version of East Midlands Airport?

Answer: Firstly, if you have registered and installed the full version of GB Airports 2001 for Flight Simulator 2000 you do not need to uninstall the evaluation version.

If you have tried out the scenery and after 31 days you decide you do not want to register the scenery (and of course we hope you do want to register it :-)). You can uninstall the scenery as follows (it must be in this order):

  1. Go to the Flight Simulator 2000Scenery Library (from the World pull down menu) and delete the entry named GB Airports 2001
  2. Delete the directory/folder you installed the scenery to. If you can't remember the directory you installed the scenery to (by default it will be off below the FS2000 Scenery directory called GB2001), use the Windows Find (from the Windows Start bar) and search for the file Glabas2k.bgl, the directory above this one is where the directory/folder you want to delete.
  3. Restart FS2000 and the scenery should be gone.

Question: How do you design the scenery?

: I use Abacus Airport and Scenery Designer, Schiratti Control Center, Abacus FS Design Studio and lots of my own software for most of the base design, but the vast majority is designed using SCASM (a scenery design compiler, for those of you who remember DOS or use UNIX you know what I mean) and a text editor. It is old fashioned and hard work but is the only real way to design the best scenery!
